Chile is a long and narrow country. It is extended between the Andean Mountain Range and the Pacific Ocean in the South West of South America. Its coordinates are in the South Latitude 17° 30' in the High Plateau Zone, reaching 56° 30' South in its continental side and 90° South in the Antarctic.
Chile various Geographic features include Pascua Island in the Polynesian territory, at 2.30 mi or 2,700 km from the coast of Insular Chile in the Antarctic, 1250000 km2, which is Antarctic Chile, and in the South American Continent which is Continental and Insular Chile, 756.096 km2.
Chile continental and insular surface equals two times more than the Germany surface, nevertheless is divided in an area of 4,200 km long by 90 km wide in its most narrow side and 440 km in its widest point, cut by hundreds of islands and fiords in it most austral side.
The capital and main city most populated and with the highest employment rate is Santiago. It has around 6.061.185 inhabitants, according to the 2002 survey. It is located in the parallel 33° South, in a similar latitude as Buenos Aires or Montevideo. It is an important politic, economic, cultural and industrial center. Santiago, with six millions of inhabitants is the main door entrance to Chile and one of the most modern capitals in the continent.
